Fall Break Part 2...

We made it back from our trip in time for Easter Morning! It was a nice day and we had time for baskets, an egg hunt, and went to our new Church that we have been attending for a while now. So nice to be able to go to church in English!

For the rest of the week we just came up with fun things to do. I think Jeff told Max that he's going to pay him by the head or something too because the body-count in the mornings seems to be on the rise...

In the middle of the week we took a day trip to a wildlife and rescue sanctuary called African Dawn

They had all kinds of birds and reptiles but the best were the African Servals!

They were so cute, fun and gorgeous. There is actually a domestic breed of cat called a "Savannah Cat" that is a cross between a house cat and a Serval. I am so getting one.

We bought some cold-water dye to see if we could pull off some new tie-dye and our shirts came out great. Check out T's double spiral!

And no school break would be complete without some baking projects. We made our traditional Bavarian pretzel recipe with 1/2 Quinoa flour so they were higher protein and lower gluten. They were still good.

Aaaand we got a Birthday box in the mail from Mema and Papa! The kids were thrilled as Sasha got some B-Day presents after the fact and Teddy got some early. What fun!

As you can see, school break came in like summer and went out like fall. By the end we were all in long sleeves and we actually busted out the potije pot and had a toasty warm evening by the fire on our last night playing board games and cooking potije.  It was a very nice break from our hectic schedule. Next school break we head to the USA... hooray!

Spring Break! (ummm I mean Fall break.... I'm so confused....)

Well summer is officially over here in S.A. Our school break started like this:

We had some great gorgeous beach days with Temps in the 80's and I envisioned the whole break being spent at the beach!

On the actual day of Sasha's Birthday we still had pretty good weather. She wanted to go to a petting zoo. This kid is crazy about animals!

They even had a little pony that you could ride for about 30 cents. Yes, I said 30 CENTS. Mind-blowing....

Max also got in on the B-day action and brought Sasha a nice, juicy present!

For Easter weekend we decided to go out to Tsitsikamma to go on some adventures. Our 3 children were excited!

It was rainy and COLD! And let me tell you, cold feels much colder when you haven't had anything but summer for almost an entire year. We went to a State Park with a cool hike and a really neat suspension bridge.

Check out Roxy on the bridge. Dogs are not allowed in S.A. State Parks at all, but we are notorious rule-breakers.

On Saturday Morning we got up early and got a break in the weather to go Zip-lining. Here's the kids all geared up!

 There were 10 different lines, and our favorite one went over waterfalls and down this canyon:

 And some of them were really fast!

 You had to break before you hit the blue mat, and then get unclipped from the line.

After that adventure we went to check out more of the region. We went to a beautiful little spot called Nature's Valley with a wild beach. It was windy, rainy and cold so we just  stayed 5 minutes to check it out. You can tell from this picture that fall is definitely here!

 After that we visited a dairy farm. This little calf that you can barely see was just born!

 One of the things we love about S.A. is how fresh and local all the food is. We bought fresh-baked bread, home-made ice-cream, cheese, pate and some great apricot jam. There were tons of baby cows on the property.

Next we headed over to Monkey land. They have this HUUUUUUGE enclosure that is literally acres and acres all netted off and you get a tour guide who helps you spot all the monkeys.

These are the same ones we have in the yard that ate our bananas!

A ring-tailed Lemur!

These little yellow monkeys were everywhere and they were my fav. Sooo cute!

Zaboomafoo!

Yet another suspension bridge took us high over a huge gorge and into the treetops so we could spot more monkeys. It looks like it was only a few feet off the ground but in the center it was at least 100! And it was built out of sticks and rope. Sketchy but fun!
